According to Hindu Puranas – Once upon a time the demon king used to be Mahishasura, which was very powerful. In order to dominate the heavens, he performed intense penance by Brahma Dev. Due to which Brahmadev appeared pleased and asked Mahishasura to ask for a bride. This power manifested in a feminine form. Who were called Durga. Fierce war broke out in Mahishasura and Durga and on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, Mother Durga killed Mahishasura. Since then, this day is celebrated as a celebration of the victory of good over evil and a festival of worship of power.

*This time those that make 200 sculptures have hardly 10-20 orders, that too of small size statues.

*Kaushik Ghosh has sent a statue to Australia and another Canada a couple of days ago, has prepared 7 more, it’s expected that some online order may come from Singapore or Dubai.

Kumhartoli (Kolkata). Durga Puja of Kolkata is legendary worldwide. Normally, the preparations for worship begin here 6-7 months beforehand . Preparations begin here only after Saraswati Puja. But, this point there’s an all round silence. People of the worship committees say just one thing, there’ll be worship in October, but what are often the character and the way we’ll not be ready to tell. we will only say that this point there’ll not be an equivalent grandeur. the rationale is corona. the town has quite 400 worship committees, small and enormous . Many are quite 85 years old. Everyone has their own history.
A letter has been written to the govt regarding the character of the event
The 75-year-old Durga Puja at Jatin Das Park, Hazra Crossing was started by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for the Dalits of Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Then they weren’t allowed to participate in worship. Pooja remains performed here today. But, this point thanks to the corona, the dimensions are going to be smaller. Businessmen say that we will see the writing on the wall immediately .
What will be the shape of worship isn’t yet decided, because the West Bengal Durga Puja Forum, a corporation of 150 worship committees, has written a letter to the government to make a decision the character of the event. in order that necessary precautions are taken in time. But, the government’s response has not come yet.

Orders wont to come largely from abroad

In the Kumhar Toli of Kolkata, famous for sculpture, outside the ‘Kumaratoli Dead Crafts Culture Committee’, a corporation of artisans, it’s written in red letters on the flax outside ‘Foreigners Not Allowed‘. The artisans of this place are in demand for traditional sculptures and each year sizable amount of foreigners come here to order the idols.
Kaushik Ghosh of Jai Durga Bhandar says that from February-March, orders started being booked from foreign countries. At an equivalent time we received two orders, not one then . Ghosh sends sculptures made from fiber abroad. Just a couple of days ago, he has sent 1 statue to Australia and another to Canada.
Price was 2 to 2.5 lakh rupees. He has prepared seven such idols within the hope that perhaps some online or telemarketing will come from Singapore or Dubai. In 2019, Ghosh sent 35 idols abroad. it’s said that this point the amount won’t reach 10. Leave aside the matter of earning, labor expenses also will be difficult to beat .
The fiber sculptures of Kumhartoli could also be in demand abroad, but the important identity is of clay. Here, quite 200 sculptors and quite 900 artisans related to them make clay sculptures throughout the year. Their year-round livelihood comes only from Durga Puja. The stalled factories of the Kumhartoli artisans are saying that this point Durga Puja of Kolkata are going to be faded. Usually in March-April, the artisans of Kumhartoli were ordered to form sculptures, all related to some committee for many years .

Capital stuck thanks to lockdown

Those making 200 sculptures hardly have 10-20 orders, that too of small size statues. Shilpi Karthik Pal says that we don’t have work. Carrara is shocked. People want to shop for the idol, which is 1.5 lakh, for half the worth . Cost is additionally difficult to extract. the matter from above is that the Ganga soil wont to make the statue has become expensive. the worth of bamboo, straw and other essential items has also increased. We made 100 idols of Annapurna. Not one sold. Annapurna Puja was on 1 April. Capital stuck in lockdown.
Mohan Saw is an artisan. Previously, he used to hairdress the clothes of Katpis. If business was destroyed in demonetisation, then I found work in Kumhartoli. It is said that the daily wage was 250 rupees, now what we get is fine. And there is no other work in the market either. Pratap Chandra Das has a shop of furnishings of idols. In the last 3 months, four thousand have not been sold. Pooja was expected, but now she also goes because craftsmen do not have orders. No one knows what will be the nature of the Puja.
In the 85-year-old Santosh Mitra Square, Rs. 3 crore was held in the last year. Were spent. The goddess was adorned with gold idols, silver chariots and diamond and gem studded sarees. The expenses were borne by the corporate houses. Gold, silver, diamonds and jewels are offered by the corporate people here. Move after worship. This time everyone is silent. Pooja committee secretary Sajal Ghosh says that we used to start preparations from January-February, but this time how the pandal will be, do not know what the theme will be. Preparation is simply to save the worship. Till now we have given advance to make the idol. Did nothing else, what will you do in the remaining 100 days?

Booking has been lacking since

1969, Ashok Ojha, the secretary of North Kolkata’s renowned Mo.Ali Pooja Committee, says that the preparations are nothing. 40 lakh was spent in 2019, 40% of this year is enough to boost funds. nobody knows what is going to be the character of worship thanks to corona. We wont to start preparing for Durga Puja only after Saraswati Puja. Bookings, pandal decorations etc. wont to start, but this point there has been no booking anywhere. But there’ll be worship, during a very small form. it’s also possible that we limit ourselves only to the establishment of the urn. we’ve not even ordered an idol.

This time the statues are going to be smaller in size

Mahesh Sharma of the 62-year-old Barabazar Tulapatti Public Durga Pujotsava Committee says that we’ve reduced the dimensions of the idol. Last year the statue was 14 feet, this year are going to be 5-7 feet high. Last year 22 lakh was spent. If half is collected this year, there’s tons . Preparations will start after Sawan because the condition of the traders is poor. Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangh Pooja Committee, Debraj Sikdar said last year there was a budget of 45 lakhs. this point 10-12 lakhs are going to be collected. Reason, neither the stall will sell, nor will anyone donate. aside from puja pandals, there’s a centuries-old tradition of Durga Puja even in homes here.
The house of Barun Mallik of the village of Raja Rammohan Roy features a history of 165 years old worship. The specialty of Pooja is that it’s the sole place where Ashtami gets ‘Sadhwa Pooja’ along side Kumari Puja. That is, the worship of Brahmani with maternal children and youngsters , the logic is that we worship the goddess in our motherly form, therefore the ancestors included the motherly form in worship. this is often not a classical legislation, yet we are following the tradition of ancestors. This puja has been related to generations from sculptor to Kahar and Dhaki.
The idol is making the dream of potter team. this is often his third generation. On the day of 23rd May, Jagannath ji’s rath yatra we performed Kath Puja (frame) and gave him earnest . On Mahalaya, the statue are going to be brought from the shoulder, the immersion are going to be like this. this point thanks to Corona, the relatives and relatives will come less, Swapan Pal doesn’t have artisans, he won’t be ready to make the idol, so rather than the idol, rituals will need to be performed only with Ghat Puja (Kalash Pujan).

Earlier there was a business of three thousand crores

Sushil Poddar, president of the Confederation of West Bengal Trade Associations, says that in the Durga Puja in Bengal, there was a turnover of about 3000 crores. These range from building Pooja Pandal to shopping within the market, but given the sluggish economy and market conditions thanks to Corona, this business is probably going to be reduced by 20 to 25 per cent.
Today people don’t have money to spend. Social distancing is to follow. In such a situation, there’s little or no hope that the devotion are going to be seen within the worship of worship this year. If the Puja functions aren’t as before, then the business won’t be an equivalent as before.

Chairman of Eastern Region Travel Agents Federation of India, Anil Punjabi explains the tourist potential of Kolkata Durga Puja festival. It says ‘This Time of Till Now it is a Big Zero’. Corona was killed in March when the results of youngsters came. Parents promise children. Booking of the hotel wont to start.
Punjabi lately try to convince people. Tourists mention booking even within the installation. it’s said that from the ministry to the industry, they’re explaining to offer breathtaking offers. But, Punjabi stops here. it’s both hope and hopelessness.

Pandit Saurabh Kumar Mishra said that in Hindu scriptures, Durga Puja occurs within the bright fortnight of Ashwin month. this point there’ll be two Ashwin months. One is pure and therefore the other is Purushottam i.e. more month. there’ll be more Mass from 18 September to 16 October. From October 17 to October 31, there’ll be pure Ashwin months.
